Today is the coldest day this week, but it’s not bad; still seeming to be in the mid-twenties. There’s a light snow and the clouds are irregular and mottled, allowing some dappled light to trickle in and hit against the buildings.

The moon is beginning to wane. Astronomically speaking, the month is beginning to wind down.

It’s also getting cold again. The breeze has shifted and is now coming from the north. Within the first hour I was awake this morning, the temperature dropped about five degrees, with a ten degree difference between Waukeegan and Gary.

Nimbus 5, 27.

Today, I discovered that taking the Outer Drive Express instead of the Red Line from Edgewater Beach shaves about ten minutes off my commute. While this might seems like an incedental difference, it’s sufficient to allow me that morning cup of coffee, which has a disproportionately large and positive impact on the rest of my day.

But this weekend brought about the third kind of midwestern winter; the horizontal furious blizzard of a winter. One than managed to transform rows of parked cars into tiny foothills and distribute a food of snow evenly across the shadowed alcove of the METRA tracks, several hundred feet deep.
