– YESTERDAY – Spent most of the day yesterday exploring the Stamr district of Williamsburg (Brooklyn). It was awesome. Later, sat up with Jess and read Jernigan by David Gates, my workshop instructor this semester. I’m enjoying it so far.

– This entry will be brief, but that has more to do with me wishing to take advantage of what has been a truly productive week and not with a lack of things to say.
– YESTERDAY – After work, I commenced my annual book buying binge, though this one was more modest than usual.

Here, then, is the summary of last weekend.

Jess went out for dinner with her friends on Friday, while I finished reading Lisa’s work and much of what Reinhardt had sent me. (This break I’ve finally managed to catch up on much of the reading I promised I’d do for friends, though I still have a ways to go).

– THE FIRE – As I was almost home from work yesterday, about three police cars and two fire trucks roared past me. I turned onto Adelphi and saw a massive plume of smoke billowing into the air less than half a block from my apartment.

Looking back on Vathek, what me might define as a character’s “depth” – her complexity as defined by the sophistication of her understanding of her world as modified by a range of goals and priorities – is largely missed in almost all of the major characters.

– YESTERDAY – Ended up being possibly the worst day I’ve had in months. But there were some high points. The office was closed, so I visited with Lisa until she had to leave at one. I got a lot of work and cleaning done during the day, and Jess and I have a nice meal with spicy mac and cheese, fresh grapes, and leftover wedding champagne.

– SORRY for posting so late in the day, but I didn’t know that I had today off, and when I discoved for certain that I did, I wanted to spend some of the extra time with Lisa before she got on her flight back to Chicago.

My first point was as to the essentially of work like the 50 States Projects to the artistic community in general: it is an active manifestation of a commitment to the promise of transcendence through art. Most artists (in any medium) today have got a sincere but unfocused commitment to the change their work can bring about in the world.

– YESTERDAY – Slumber. I was so looking forward to me break, but now I’m kind of eager to get back to school. I make myself lists of things to do, then find myself unable to crawl out of bed early on days I have off from work.

– YESTERDAY – Shopped after work yesterday. Came home and worked on the website. Slept in this morning.
– WEATHER – I give up! We had a thundestorm last night.
– JANUARY – Is the month of Thank-Yous.
– HAPPY BIRTHDAY – Edmund Burke and Jack London.
