Scavhunt 2006, Post #1. The Judges meet the Captains.

CONCEPT

Also known as Trip to Chicago, Part 2

THE SATURDAY BEFORE THE HUNT:

At Berston’s, the teams and judges met for kickball. It was the tall vs. the small. (Last year featured the hot vs. the not). I’ve been on the winning team both years. I leave it to you to decide which that would be.

Here’s a hint; if you’re ever the “captain” of an intramural softball game and you get to make the selections, go for the lankiest, swarthiest, ugliest people you can find.

After that we adjourned a mere block to Courney’s which is one of the neatest, greenest, and most secluded corners of the neighborhood. (A nice counterpoint to Hyde Park Blvd., where I’ve spent more time). On the way I talked to Austin from the Pierce team, who was abroad last year and was back to co-captain Pierce again. I also got to know the new captains better, and met and re-met the other judges. This was particularly interesting; I’d met many of the new judges (Jim, Mike, Leila, Claire, and Tricky) when they were scavvies and captains, and I’d gotten a sense of their personalities by reading their emails, but in most cases it was my first chance to match their voices up with their faces and my memories. I also saw Sam and Sky for the first time on the trip. Jess got back from her haircut and we ate burgers and hot dogs, played that weird Packers game and the Ye Old Spin, Sit, Run n’ Hug. During which Colin and I virtually sandwiched Nora. (Pictures anyone?)

The sun had set by the time we headed out to Gothic Funk Party #7.
